For over the last 100 years, Westinghouse Saxby Farmer Limited has set the pace for the industry for the development of reliable Signaling and Railway Brake System.

Railway in India was first inaugurated in the year 1853 when Indian Railways started operation by dispatching a train with fourteen carriages and 400 guests from Bombay’s Bori-Bunder to Thane. The idea for starting railway was first mooted in 1832 by some members of the Government who proposed to allow private enterprises to built railway in India under close supervision of Government. In 1848, the then Governor General, Lord Dollhousie agreed to the proposal and subsequently the event of 1853 happened.

The overwhelming response from the people and traders encouraged Indian Government to spread Indian Railways all over India. In 1906 a private Company namely Saxby & Farmer established One Unit in Kolkata and extended their hand in the progress of Indian Railways. At that time most of the equipment they supplied were imported. From 1923 it started functioning by the name of Westinghouse Saxby Farmer Limited as an Indian counterpart of M/s. Westinghouse Brake & Signal Co. Ltd. Gradually WSF played a pioneering role in manufacturing and supplying of Safety equipment to Indian Railways and enjoyed a market share of ninety percent. Since 1969 it became a Govt. of West Bengal Company. It is now an ISO 9001-2000 Company certified by TUV.

Design

For E. P Brake and relays : We are the successor of Westinghouse brake & signal co.ltd, U.K. and as such our products are basically based on their design later modified from time to time as par request of Indian Railway.

Coupler : As par license agreement with M/s. SCHARFENBERG KUPPLANG GmbH [SCHAKU], our couplers are made with their design. All our important load bearing parts are forged and no steel castings are used.

Installation & training :

We train the maintenance personnel of different zonal Railway and coach manufactures in house as well as at users end.
Also install the E. P. Unite ourselves, as we have trained personnel at coach manufacturers end as par mutually agreed program.
