Railway in India was first inaugurated in the year 1853 when Indian Railways started operation by dispatching a train with fourteen carriages and 400 guests from Bombay’s Bori-Bunder to Thane. The idea for starting railway was first mooted in 1832 by some members of the Government who proposed to allow private enterprises to built railway in India under close supervision of Government. |
